Welcome to the new United Methodist Reporter

It’s been several months in coming, but beginning today The United Methodist Reporter assumes a new look. When CircuitWriter Media took over the operation of this site in June we knew that we would need to make some technical changes in the site. In the course of making those changes we realized that it was time to assume a new identity reflective of our new direction as a web based source of news and commentary.

However, the changes we make today are not simply about upgrading our look. We wanted to make the site more useful to you. We have worked to include more information on the front page to make it easier to find what you are looking for. We’ve added links to the latest posts from our friends at The MethoBlog. While we continue to be ad supported (and hope that you will visit our advertisers) we’ve tried to integrate the ads more seamlessly into the site so as to not overwhelm you.

We are especially excited to debut our new classified advertising system, UMR-List. We have changed to an entirely new model for this system, and believe it will be more functional for both users and advertisers in the future. UMR-List is a cost-effective way for you to advertise job listings or items for sale in a place where they will be more easily viewed. We hope you will check it out and that it will become a popular service.

We are also rolling out our new e-mail subscription service that will provide you a daily update of the latest news and commentary on the site.  Click here if you would like to sign up for one of our custom e-mail lists.

While the look has changed, we continue to be blessed with the same great writers — folks like Missy Buchanan, Donald Haynes, and Ken Walden. We are continuing to expand our roster of writers, and will continue to do our best in bringing you news from the United Methodist Church as quickly as possible.

We hope that you find the new edition of The United Methodist Reporter to be helpful in your journey to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in the United Methodist tradition. Feel free to let us know if you see any problems, and don’t hesitate to send us your ideas for making this site even more useful.

The United Methodist Reporter wants to encourage lively conversation about The United Methodist Church and our articles in the belief that Christian conversation (what Wesley would call conferencing) is a means of grace. While we support passionate debate, we cannot allow language that demeans or demonizes others, and we reserve the right to delete any comment we believe to be harmful or inappropriate. We encourage all to remember that we are all broken and in need of Christ's grace, and that we all see through the glass darkly until that time we when reach full perfection in love. May your speech here be tempered with love, and reflection of the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. After all, "There is no law against things like this." (Galatians 5:22-23)
