Recently Viewed: Slaughter and Hamilton unpack civil religion

Recently ReadGinghamsburg Church in Tipp City, OH has recently published a couple of interviews between their Sr. Pastor, Mike Slaughter, and Adam Hamilton, Sr. Pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. One of the topics they address is the prevalence of civil religion in American society, and how that can be at odds with Christ’s vision of the Kingdom of God. Slaughter challenges the notion that he’s heard from some that we are “…Americans first, and Christians second…” and what he calls “…the cult of the nation state.” They offer some interesting places for thought and conversation as we move into the Independence Day weekend.
